How to stop bathroom mirrors steaming up?
Wiping away the condensation from a mirror with your hand or a towel only works for a few seconds. That’s because the moist air quickly deposits more tiny water droplets on the cool glass and these distort the image it reflects. The cure: dab your finger on some soap or other detergent and rub a fine layer over the mirror.
The soap molecules destroy the force that makes the condensation form into droplets, turning it instead into a flat film of water. This allows light to pass through un-distorted, giving a clear reflection.
How to avoid static electric shocks?
A combination of certain types of clothing, footwear, friction and dry weather can cause our bodies to build up a hefty electric charge, triggering sudden discharges of static electricity between our hands and metal objects such as door handles. But since electric charges often concentrate round pointy objects like fingertips, one solution is to touch metal handles with your palm first: it’s relatively flat and thus far less likely to trigger a shock.
How to beat travel sickness?
Forget those rubber strips and dangly chains off the back of cars: The main cause of travel sickness is a mismatch between what the eyes see and what the body experiences. Research suggests the best remedy is to sit where you can see the road ahead, instead of looking at something inside the car.
