Pawoot Pongvitayapanu was nervously sitting in front of his computer. The managing director of e-commerce company Tarad.com, Pom as he’s commonly known, has a big suprise for his girlfriend of six years, Komkamon Sri-ien or Em. He was goig to propose using technology. Pom had roped in Em’s boss for his grand plan last August. The latter was tasked to instruct Em to attend a presentation at a cafe. On the day of the meeting, however, she got wary when her boss stalled for time. Pom also had not contacted her for days, which was suspicious. As the presentation began, Em’s computer screen went blank and resumed with the message, “Miss Kornkamon Sri-ien, please click at the bottom of the screen.” Em thought it was the client’s marketing strategy, and pressed a key. A cartoon appeared with the message, “Have you been lonely lately?”

Personally, for me it’s very fun to be cheap in an economic sense. Who doesn’t? I feel happy when i can find cheap and free stuff, even if i have to sacrifice time spending hours to find one simple and cool, but with lower price. I know it’s not always wise to be cheap. “I never buy cheap stuff, from stationery to even clothes, simply because I want my stuff to last for a long time,” said a friend of mine. Philosophically, there’s nothing wrong with being stingy, although cheapness is not related to happiness. Happiness is a matter of the heart - it doesn’t depend on what we have, but rather on “how we value things we have”.

Ada seorang pegawai negeri yang saleh pulang kerja lembur pada akhir bulan. Sementara pulang, dalam keadaan perut lapar sehabis lembur, dia berpikir alangkah enaknya kalau sampai di rumah nanti makan nasi panas dengan lauknya yang dibuat isteri tercintanya. Setelah sampai rumah dia disambut isterinya lalu cuci tangan dan minta disediakan makan. Isterinya menyampaikan bahwa makanan yang ada tinggal nasi dan hanya sedikit sayur bayam tanpa lauk. Sebagai orang yang saleh si pegawai negeri bersyukur karena menyadari bahwa setiap akhir bulan uang pasti sudah habis sehingga bisa makan pun sudah syukur.

Semua berawal di Sabtu sore yang sepi. Aku sedang duduk di depan komputer, memandang layar yang kosong, seperti pikiranku saat itu. Aku berharap menemukan ide cemerlang untuk esai sepanjang seribu kata yang akan kubuat, ketika…

“JINHANG!Sudah berapa kali ibu bilang, jangan duduk di depan komputer terlalu lama. Kasihan matamu. Pergi dan istirahat!” Teriak ibuku yang sedang berada di dapur dengan suara melengking.
